When I first started fashion blogging I did it to have a reason to get dressed up and to discover my personal style. Little did I know that I was going to learn so many tips on how to make "no-no" pieces work for me.

There seem to be so many "rules" you should know about when it comes to fashion.
  • No white after Labor Day.
  • You can't wear black and brown together!
  • Drop waists only look good on tall girls.
  • Pockets in dresses only add bulk.
  • Petite girls need short hem lengths, otherwise it just makes them look shorter.
  • Leggings aren't pants.
  • Don't ever wear denim on denim.
The list could go on and on (and on.) My favorite thing about fashion is that the rules are meant to be broken! Black and brown is seriously my favorite outfit color combo-nothing makes me feel more sophisticated than black tights and brown boots. Winter whites are amazing. This dress from eShakti is busting all the rules and doing it with style.

When I tried it on I thought the drop waist wouldn't look good on me because it sits right above my hips and I thought it would accentuate them, but instead I think it helps the dress flare out in just the right area to camouflage my hips. Also, all of eShakti's dresses with pockets are the bee's knees simply because there is nothing better than pockets in dresses.

I custom ordered this dress to have a longer length because Rexburg winters are brutal and I want to be as covered as I can. However, just like the rule said, the length did make me look super short. I turned to a tried and true fashion trick to fix the rule I broke. I paired matching tights and boots to make my legs look longer. Using one color helped to blend my feet and my legs instead of cutting my legs off at the ankles; therefore making them look even stumpier. Plus a nice pointed-toe bootie kept that line going all the way down

Fashion rules are meant to be broken, but fashion tip and tricks are always there to help us looking stylish.
